Do I need to bring any equipment/what is provided?

We cater to all learners with hands-on, lectures, videos and power-point classes. We ask all students to bring notepad, pen or pencil for taking notes during these classes, although this is not essential it is highly recommended to help retain and expand on knowledge shared.

For some courses course books shall be provided for each student. All equipment is provided at the academy to cut and style hair including Clippers, Scissors, Combs, Brushes, Razors, Products PPE etc. Students may also bring their own professional equipment and are therefore responsible for maintaining and cleaning their tools.

The Sid Sottung Academy does not take responsibility for loss or damage of personal equipment.

What should I wear?

The Sid Sottung Academy is also a performing salon. You may be learning alongside professionals working with clients, we therefore ask all students to wear smart/casual, black, appropriate clothing. No open shoes, shorts etc.

Will I receive a certificate?

On successful completion of a course students shall receive a Sid Sottung Academy Diploma, approved by HABIA – The Hair and Beauty Industry Authority.

Do I need to provide models?

All live models are provided by the Academy. If you do wish to provide a model, please let our staff know in advance so they may schedule in their appointment.

What time should I arrive?

Courses start promptly at 9:30am. We kindly ask students to arrive 10-15 minutes prior.

Am I too old/ too young to apply?

We take students from the age of 16. There is no age limit, we’ve had successful students at 60 years of age. All we ask of our students is to keep an open mind and be willing to learn.

How do I book onto a course?

Our website provides all dates for location courses. You can pay via our website by selecting your course and securely using your debit or credit card. All course payments are non-refundable. Terms & conditions apply.

I’m a beginner, what course should I do?

Our 5 days Barbering foundation course is a great introduction to the world of barbering. The course can also be 2 or 3 weeks, but If you want to straight away start working as a barber we recommend doing the 4 week or 20 day part-time course.

I can’t find dates for a course?

You can drop us an email and we will try and accommodate you.

I would like private tuition with Sid?

We offer private 1 to 1 classes with Sid in Edinburgh, find it in or courses, bespoke 1 to 1 with Sid, dates will be arranged privately via email.

Can I have in-salon training?

We offer in salon training, worldwide. We require a minimum of 5 attendees. Email us to organise a bespoke package to suit your salon.
